The national team is preparing for the 2023 World Cup qualification
Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Ainars Bagatskis announced the arrival of Ukrainian NBA players Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk and Alexey Len to the camp of the national team for the decisive qualifying matches of the 2023 World Cup.
“I would like to say that we have good news and everything should become clear in the coming days. I really hope that we will have Mikhailyuk and Len – we are a completely different team with them. They really want to play for the national team and I think they will be with us soon. That’s all I can say about it for now.”
The Ukrainian team has already completed the first training camp, which took place in Riga. Now Bagatskis’ team is in Italy. Before the qualifying matches, Ukraine will hold two friendly matches with Portugal and Slovakia.
On July 1 and 7, Ukraine will play two nominally home qualifying matches against Georgia and Spain respectively (both will take place in Riga). On July 4, the team of Ainars Bagatskis will play away with North Macedonia.
In qualifying for the World Cup, Ukraine played three matches, defeating North Macedonia and losing away to Georgians and Spaniards. In their group, the blue-yellows take third place. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next round of selection.
