Pablo Prigioni’s team shined in Vicente Rosales and gave the public more than a massive victory
Argentina’s national team defeated Charrúas by 120-71 in the penultimate friendly match in preparation for the Olympic pre-qualifier that starts next week in Santiago del Estero. Thirteen players make up the light blue and white rotation, with the good news that Gabriel Deck has joined his teammates. Tortuga is in the final stages of his recovery, and is causing excitement among the coaching staff.
Those led by Pablo Prigioni returned to the country after their European tour, with three wins and one loss (against Belgium), and faced the Uruguayan team in a friendly match at Vicente Rosales. Those from neighboring countries had a series of difficulties in putting together a squad for the upcoming tournament. With several notable absences (Jayson Granger, Bruno Fitipaldo and Santiago Vescovi) and some untimely injuries (Luciano Parodi and Agustín Ubal), Charrúas gave a chance to some new faces in the squad now led by Gerardo Jauri.
The best of the Argentine National Team has once again emerged from the hands of Facundo Campazzo. Cordovan delighted the public approaching Vicente Rosales with 20 points, 11 assists and 4 rebounds. Intern Juan Francisco Fernández showed his growth again and accompanied him with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. In total, seven players from our country finished scoring in double digits, on a night where scoring from the perimeter was the great ally. An excellent 23/43 (53%) from 6.75m brought out the best in the team, smiling when they could trust the hand of their perimeters. On the Orientals side, Joaquín Rodríguez with 18 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists and Nicola Pomoli with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist were among the best in Gerardo Jauri’s team.
How to follow the Argentina National Team calendar:
La Celeste y blanca will play one more match before the continental tournament against the Argentine U-22 team next Saturday (behind closed doors). Their activity in the Olympic Pre-qualifier was supposed to start on Monday, against Panama, but FIBA made it official that they will not participate in this competition, due to various internal conflicts. Because of this, the team led by Pablo Prigioni will take to the pitch of the Estadio Ciudad on Wednesday, August 16. His debut will be against the Bahamas, which will come with four NBA players in their ranks. The matches will be broadcast by TyC Sports and TyC Sports Play signal.
