Mikhailyuk: I took what the game gave me

The Ukrainian repeated his personal record for scoring in the NBA during his career

Ukrainian defender Boston Celtics Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk commented on the match against the Washington Wizards on the last game day of the regular season NBA.

“I just took what the game gave me. I made some throws, open throws, some I did early. I feel like it gave me a little more confidence.”

“We knew we would have the opportunity to play a lot of minutes. “Everyone came prepared, everyone was excited to get on the court and get more playing time, and everyone wanted to win and end the regular season on the right note and start getting ready for the playoffs.”

“Head coach Joe Mazulla mentioned many times during the season that some starters would be rested. This forces you to be attentive, you need to be ready at any moment for anything that happens. We understand that we are one of the best teams in the league and we have really big goals ahead of us. So for me personally, to help the team win, you always have to be ready.”

The 26-year-old Ukrainian was in the starting five for the Celtics against the Wizards, spent 37 minutes on the floor and scored 26 points, thereby repeating his own career record. Svyatoslav scored 18 of his 26 points with three-point shots, converting six of eight attempts (a career record). In addition to this, the Ukrainian made 5 rebounds, gave 5 assists, and made one blocked shot.

Note that for Mikhailyuk this match was the sixth in a row in which he scored points, and the second in a row where he started from the first minutes. On average, this season Svyatoslav spends 10 minutes on the court, scores 4 points, makes 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

Boston won the Eastern Conference ahead of schedule, winning 64 of 82 matches. Mikhailyuk’s team is awaiting its opponent, who will be determined based on the results of the NBA play-in matches.
