Dallas Mavericks extend contract with head coach Kidd

The team led by its ex-player will play with Oklahoma in the Western Conference semifinals

Dallas Mavericks officially announced the extension of the contract with the team’s head coach Jason Kidd. The specialist signed a new long-term agreement.

The mentor thanked the management for their trust and stated his desire to win the championship title with the Mavs – now as a coach.

Kidd is 51 years old. At one time, he was a notable player, playing for various NBA teams, including Dallas, with which he became the 2010/2011 NBA champion. As a member of the US team, Jason twice became an Olympic champion (Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008). Since 2018, he has been a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

After retiring, Kidd first coached the Brooklyn Nets, then headed the Milwaukee Bucks for several years, from where he was fired for unsatisfactory results. In 2020, he won his second championship as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jason became the head coach of Dallas in 2021. In his first season, he took fourth place with the team in the Western Conference, after which he reached the finals, where he lost to Golden State.

In the current championship, the Mavericks confidently finished fifth in the conference and won the Southwest Division for the first time in 14 years (50 wins in 82 matches). Kidd’s team will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference semifinals. The first match of the series will take place on the night of May 8 (Kyiv time).
