“We specifically made tough laws against drugs.” Valuev – about the Greiner verdict

Conviction of an American basketball player Britney Griner taken within the framework of the law and will be subject to political negotiations, a deputy of the State Duma told Nikolai Valuev .

The case against Greiner was considered by the Khimki City Court. On August 4, the basketball player was sentenced to 9 years in prison with a fine of 1 million rubles.

– Severe punishment or not? First of all, it’s legal. We have specifically made tough laws regarding all drugs, so that they are not fearless for those who use them. The letter of the law is simply enforced, nothing is increased. Most likely, this will become the subject of political negotiations, exchanges. The United States has already made an offer, as they are interested not only in Greiner, but in someone else involved. Trade for Booth? Everyone thinks about it. What, repeat, as everyone thinks? Let’s see. I think everything will happen in this vein,” Valuev told .

Greiner was arrested on suspicion of attempting to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport in February, and a criminal case was opened for drug trafficking. Greiner, 31, has been playing for UMMC Yekaterinburg since 2015, winning the Olympics twice as part of Team USA (2016, 2020).

Earlier, US media reported, citing a source in US President Joe Biden’s administration, that he supported plans to swap Russian Viktor Bout, who is serving a prison sentence in the US, for American citizens Greiner and Paul Whelan, who was sentenced in Russia to 16 years in prison for espionage.
