South Sudan’s basketball coach has called the officiating at the 2024 Olympics a “travesty.”

South Sudan basketball head coach Royal Ivey says referees were biased against his team in a key group stage game at the 2024 Olympics.

On Saturday, South Sudan lost to Serbia (85:96) in the last match of the group and failed to qualify for the playoffs. During the match, Serbia made 31 free throws, South Sudan – six. Ivey received a technical foul during the match for arguing with the referee.

“It’s a travesty. How did they make 31 free throws and we made six? How? My guys gave it their all: blood, sweat and tears. And now tell me, how come we only made six free throws? We only made one free throw in the second half,” the coach said, according to AP.

In the quarter-finals, the pairs of the Paris Olympics will meet: Brazil – USA, Germany – Greece, France – Canada, Serbia – Australia. The matches will take place on August 6. The final of the Olympic basketball tournament will take place on August 10 in Paris.
