The NBA suspended Philadelphia center Joel Embiid for three regular season games for a confrontation with a reporter in the locker room, the league’s press service reports.
Embiid pushed Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes after the game against Memphis (107:124) on Nov. 2, reporter Shams Charania said on the social network.
— Mutual respect is of paramount importance in relationships between NBA players and members of the media. While we understand that Joel was offended by a personal opinion in a reporter’s column, the interaction must remain professional on both sides and must never escalate into physical violence,” said Joe Dumars, executive vice president of NBA basketball operations.
Embiid misses the start of the season with a knee injury. His suspension will begin upon his return to work. The basketball player is 30 years old, he was recognized as the most valuable player of the NBA regular season in the 2023/24 season.
