former British boxing world champion David Haye during a fight at one of the London institutions, he grabbed a man by the throat and threatened to kill him, the victim told a Westminster Magistrates Court meeting.
Haye is defended in an incident in west London last October. The boxer came into conflict with another visitor to the facility named Nikesh Jala over ‘disparaging remarks’ directed at him.
He walks up to me, leans over to whisper something in my ear, and puts his hand on my throat. He said, “Say one more word and I’ll kill you. I said, “I didn’t even say anything, what are you talking about?” On the way back he said, “Say one more word and I’ll finish you off”, Jala quotes evening standard .
He added that he didn’t want to spoil the evening by contacting the police, but a few days later he filed a complaint online.
Prosecutor Jonathan Bryan noted that “for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, Hay got up from his seat, walked across the aisle and walked over to Jala, put his hand around his throat and threatened him”.
Haye’s lawyer, James Scobey, denied the death threats, noting that the athlete put his hand “at best on his shoulder”.
Haye is 41 years old, in the professional ring he won 28 (26 by knockout), suffered four defeats. Previously, he had WBC, WBA, WBO championship belts. Haye last fought in 2018.
