American coach confident that Lomachenko is able to defeat Haney and Stevenson
Teofimo Lopez Sr.father and coach of former undisputed lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopezcommented on the victory of the ex-champion in three divisions Vasily Lomachenko above Jemaine Ortiz.
“I think Lomachenko dominated throughout the fight. He may have lost a few rounds, but not many. I believe that the unanimous decision of the judges was correct.”
“Was Lomachenko the same as in the fight with my son? Not at all. I thought it looked a little rusty. But you can’t blame Lomachenko for that. He didn’t fight for a while. Given the situation in Ukraine, everything that happened there, I think he is still capable of defeating Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson. Even with his performance like that, I saw Lomachenko take most of the rounds. I think he will come back and do well.”
Lomachenko won another victory in the professional ring, defeating American Jemaine Ortiz on points. All three judges gave the victory to the Ukrainian – 115:113, 116:112 and 117:111. Lomachenko’s next fight is likely to be against undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Teofimo Lopez defeated the Ukrainian by unanimous decision in 2020 and took away his WBA, WBO and WBC Franchise world lightweight titles. Subsequently, Teofimo lost the belts in a fight with George Kambosos.
