Judoists Lechi Ediev and Yakub Shamilov, representing the Chechen Republic, were disqualified from the Russian Championship in Yekaterinburg due to criticism from the judges.
Earlier, Shamilov (weight category up to 66 kg) and Ediev (up to 73 kg) dropped out of the tournament table, having lost in the preliminary stages. Shamilov lost to Alim Balkarov (Tyumen), Ediev – to Ali Tursunov (Moscow). Both athletes had claims with the judges, which they expressed after the end of the losing fights.
The official reason for disqualification is “actions contrary to the spirit of judo”.
According to , the conditions of the suspension will be determined by the Russian Judo Federation Disciplinary Committee.
Shamilov is a bronze medalist at the 2021 World Championships, competing at the Tokyo Olympics. Ediev is the 2018 Russian champion, the winner of the 2014 European Cup.
The Russian Championship will end on November 4.
