Joshua: I’m not a champion and I’m in a lot of pain

The Briton will not enter the ring this year

Former World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua stated that he is planning his comeback next year. At the same time, the Briton hinted that he was having a hard time losing in a second battle from Oleksandr Usyk.

“I should have been in the ring this year. I’m going to enter the ring next year. I don’t want to make any announcement today and hold on to fights.”

“When I am ready, I will return to the ring. I’m not a champion and it just hurts a lot. I’m in the gym rebuilding and restructuring everything I need to do inside and outside the ring. There is a lot going on in my life outside of the ring which makes my life in the ring difficult. So I just need to simplify a lot of things outside of the ring and then just focus all my attention in the ring. Once I do that, next year I’ll be ready.”

“My life is difficult. Boxing has become a bit difficult for me. Everyone is just trying to make the most of this time while I’m boxing and they’re good at it. But it also affects my activity in the ring. So I just always try to drop all those things. It’s a challenge. I’m just trying to get rid of it this year so I feel more focused next year.”

In August, Joshua lost by split decision to Ukrainian boxer, WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

AJ wants to enter the ring in his next fight with Dillian Whyte. The fight could take place if White wins over Jermain Franklin.

Anthony has been in talks with WBC champion Tyson Fury for a fight in late 2022. However, the parties could not agree on the final details of the contract, after which Joshua postponed his return to the ring until next year.

Previously, the Briton planned to hold his next fight on December 17. Potential opponents were Otto Wallin and Chris Arreola.
