The ex-world champion compared himself with the Ukrainian champion
Former world champion in two weight categories David Haye compared himself to a WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk. The American believes that at the peak of his form he could knock out the Ukrainian.
“I would like to believe that in my best years I would have beaten Usyk. I’m talking about myself during the fight with Maccarinelli or Mormeck, with that speed and timing. I always liked to fight with left-handers, I hit with the right. If you watch the fight between Bellew and Usyk, then Tony controlled the fight while he remained in it. If he had been younger and fresher, he could have performed much better. If you put me in place of Bellew of spades, then I definitely think that I would have beaten this guy ahead of schedule.
“Of course, now Usyk is a different person, he is a heavyweight. He gained weight, gave amazing fights. His fight with Derek Chisora was very close. There he snatched victory on the thin one. When I fought Derek, I knocked him out in five rounds. So we had the same opponents. Usyk knocked out Bellew, and Tony knocked me out twice.
I would be confident going into a fight with him. It would be hard, hard, but I would find a way to get close to him. I wouldn’t let him do some of the things he does with the big heavyweights. He would not be able to do with me what he did with Anthony Joshua, because I am much faster, ”said the former boxer.
David Haye retired in 2018. The British lost the title of world champion in a fight with Wladimir Klitschko. Further, Haye underwent surgery on his shoulder joint, after which he lost twice to Tony Bellew and ended his professional career with 28 wins and 4 defeats.
Earlier it was reported that Haye is accused of attempted murder of a person. According to the victim Nikeshi Djalo, the former boxer approached the man, grabbed him by the throat and threatened to kill him. Hay himself stated in court that he only spoke to Jala and put his hand on his shoulder.
