Hearn: Let’s fight Alvarez-Ryder in May at the Emirates

British promoter calls Canelo’s visit to the UK ‘incredible’

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that the British John Ryder can fight against the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world Saul Canelo Alvarez in May at London’s Emirates Stadium.

“John Ryder is the mandatory challenger, let’s do it in May at the Emirates. It would be a dream fight for Ryder, he deserves it.”

“He is a very good fighter. Canelo’s arrival in the UK would be an incredible event. Let’s see if we can arrange it.”

Last Saturday, Ryder defeated his compatriot Zach Parker ahead of schedule and became the “interim” WBO super middleweight champion. Ryder became the mandatory contender for the duel with Alvarez.

Hearn previously stated that Alvarez’s return is slated for late spring 2023.

In early November, Alvarez underwent surgery on his left wrist. The boxer has stated that he expects to return by September 2023.

On the night of September 18, Alvarez defeated Golovkin by unanimous decision and defended his titles. All judges gave Canelo the win – 116-112, 115-113, 115-113.

This was the third fight between the rivals. The first fight in September 2017 ended in a draw. A year later, the Mexican won by split decision.
