Usyk: I think that the fight with Tyson Fury will take place, but not as planned

WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk told the details of the failure of the unification fight with WBC champion Tyson Fury.

“The fight did not take place for various reasons. We couldn’t agree. Someone does not agree to any conditions that are useful or beneficial to each other. There are many unknowns. I think that this fight with Tyson Fury will take place, but not as planned on April 29th.

“I did a lot of work in the camp, improved some of my results in swimming, running, cycling, holding my breath. I am very glad that I am now at home.”

“I look at it with a very big positive. It means that it had to be so, it means that the Lord stops me somewhere, gives me a little pause so that later I could start better.”

“When did you realize that there would be no fight? When Tyson Fury said 70 to 30. The whole team said he was crazy. Literally the next day I agreed and that’s it. It’s not about the money, it’s about the duel, the absolute. Money is, of course, good for the family, I could help those who need it. But here is just a duel, its scale. A fight for an absolute that hasn’t been seen for many decades.”

“I don’t think he has trained. He is unpredictable, he wants a lot in his own way. He could not even think that I would agree to all the conditions that he offered. With him, you cannot be sure by three percent or even one that he will go to the duel. He plays his game and thinks he’s king.”

The Usyk-Fury fight was supposed to take place on April 29 at London’s Wembley Stadium. However, representatives of the Ukrainian said they had withdrawn from the negotiation process. According to Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, Fury’s team demanded too much, no matter how much Usyk compromised.

Promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk said that Usyk would soon begin talks about his next fight. Later, information appeared that Usyk was negotiating a fight with Dubois.
