“If there is a fight, Zagitova will kill me” – Saitov

Two-time Olympic boxing champion Oleg Saitov spoke to about the boxing master class for the Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova as part of Moscow Sports Day on June 25 in Luzhniki.

– How did the negotiations go?

“They just asked me if I was against it,” Saitov told . I replied: why not? Interesting girl, great figure skater. So I gladly accepted.

Would you like to show me some boxing tricks?

– You have to show everything in a complex: the movement of the legs, the defense, the strikes. One does not go without the other. I will show the main points that I would recommend paying attention to. I heard that Alina was slowly starting to practice boxing. If you need additional support, I’m ready to help.

– So it’s training, not sparring? And then they present it as if it were a fight between a titled boxer and a figure skater.

She’s going to kill me! In any case! What fight? I was told there would be training. Combat is a bit different, not an option.

– In general, how do you rate the desire of titled athletes to try boxing?

“People are drawn to the good. Boxing is, first, coordination, second, the ability to defend, and third only, it is the ability to strike. When it all starts to work together, you feel a harmony, a buzz inside.

Last fight Saitov, 48, fought in the semifinals of the 2004 Olympics at the age of 30. According to professionals, the boxer did not perform.

Zagitova, 20, is the first Russian figure skater to win the championship title at all major tournaments: at the Olympics, World Championships, European Championships and the Grand Prix series final.
