The Briton continues to make ambitious plans
British heavyweight Joe Joyce named the holder of the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO titles Alexandra Usika and WBC champion Tyson Fury their priority rivals after a rematch with Zhang Zhilei.
“At this level you are under a lot of pressure. If I hadn’t exercised the rematch clause, time would have been pressing on me to get back in line and get a title shot. The fight with Zhang Zhilei is a big risk, but the reward is also big – returning to challenger status with the right to demand a mandatory defense.”
“The victory will perfectly prepare me for the fight with Oleksandr Usyk, who is also a southpaw, and also with Tyson Fury, who knows how to change stances. That’s why I first agreed to fight with Zhileem, because he is a top-15 fighter, an experienced boxer. Everything will be better when I beat him.”
Let us remember that Joyce previously announced his plan to enter the title fight with Usyk in 2024.
The Briton’s rematch with Zhilei will officially take place on September 23 in London. Zhang and Joe’s first fight took place in April. Joyce lost by technical knockout and lost his WBO interim title. For him, the defeat from Zhilei was the first in his professional career.
