Russian boxer Asbarov exiled told that he continues to be interested in a potential meeting with his compatriot Murat Gassiev.
On Saturday, Gassiev lost to Swede Otto Wallin by split decision. The heavyweight fight took place in Belek, Turkey. Previously, Asbarov had repeatedly stated that he was interested in a meeting with Gassiev. But he suggested that Asbarov meet David Dzukaev first.
– From a negative point of view, he surprised me. I expected more from him. Maybe they did a bad job, underestimated their opponent. He did not carry out his plan, he was accused of one blow: he wanted to ambush her. He probably wanted to knock out the same way as before. You can never count on a one-shot knockout. I always tell everyone. Maybe that had an effect: he couldn’t box, he couldn’t show what he was capable of.
— What are Gassiev’s prospects now?
– I don’t know. Perhaps our fight is already near. I repeat, I don’t know. I have my own plans, now I have an important fight with Alexey Papin (October 28 in Moscow). And then we’ll see. My goal is the WBA belt.
— So, the meeting with Gassiev continues to be interesting for you?
– Well yes. It’s a noisy fight, it’s a media fight. And it will always interest the public. Why not, – Asbarov.
Former WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Gassiev has 30 victories (23 by KO) and two defeats.
