UFC chief Dana White admired the words of the promotion’s lightweight champion Islam Makhachev ahead of his fight against Australian Alex Volkanovski.
Previously, UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski replaced the injured Brazilian Charles Oliveira and became Makhachev’s opponent at the UFC 294 tournament, which will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi. After changing opponents, Makhachev said: “What does the title of UFC champion mean? It means you are the best in the world. And if you’re the best in the world, it doesn’t matter who stands in front of you. What can I say ? Refuse? Never. Let’s do it.”
White asked to immortalize a quote from a Russian fighter on the walls of the UFC Apex arena in Las Vegas (USA).
“We need to know if it was done, but earlier I called the team and said: ‘I want Makhachev’s quote to be in the UFC Apex. Those words should be on the wall, White reportedly said. MMA News .
Last October, Makhachev defeated Oliveira and won the lightweight belt; in February, the Russian defeated Volkanovski by unanimous decision and defended his title.
