Fighters weighing up to 224 pounds (101.61 kg) will be able to compete in the division.
World Boxing Association (WBA) approved the introduction of a weight category “Bridgerweight” . The new division will range from 200 pounds up to 224 lbs or 101.61 kg (between cruiserweight and heavyweight).
The association spent several months analyzing the feasibility of the new category, and in the end the committee voted unanimously for the innovation. The introduction of the division will allow us to avoid fights with too large a difference in weight, as happens in the superweight category.
The WBA ratings committee has already begun work on creating rankings for this weight. The first fights in the bridgeweight division will be announced soon.
Let us remind you that the WBA heavyweight belt is held by Ukrainian Alexander Usik, who previously moved from cruiserweight. In the up to 200 pound category, the champion title was won by Frenchman Arsen Ghulamiryan.
