The Ukrainian WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion learned about the Briton’s cut eye during training.
Oleksandr Usyk received the news of the injury with a smile during a sparring session with his next opponent, Tyson Fury. The WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion himself spoke about it.
According to the Ukrainian boxer, he was not sad, because it was easier to live this way.
“They told me this after I left the ring. I trained for 12 rounds of sparring, we did an incredible job. And then Sergei Sergeevich Lapin came, a little smiling, a little tense, and said that there we such news. I smiled incredulously and continued to practice.
And this smile is not from Tyson Fury, this is my smile. Because it’s easier for me. When I smile, I’m free.
If you try to smile at nothing, you will understand how beautiful life is,” Usyk said in a press conference.
We remind you that the fight between Usik and Fury was supposed to take place on February 17, but it was postponed due to the cut the Briton received during sparring. The match is scheduled for May 18 in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, Usyk blasted Fury over the Briton’s injury.
