Matytsin: “Our country has always been proud of our struggle. We are honest and open”

Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin said that the Russian Wrestling Federation is making the right decisions by maintaining a dialogue with international federations.

Russian wrestlers will perform at the Olympic license tournament in Baku.

— The Russian Wrestling Federation and I have the same policy: respect for traditions, our country, our victories and our president.

Our country has always been proud of our wrestling – both Soviet and Russian, and the wrestlers who are preparing today for the Olympic license tournament in Baku are links in a great chain, and this is a powerful link between the past and the future. I believe that we are making the right decisions, maintaining a dialogue with international federations, winning Olympic licenses on a sports basis.

We are honest and open. We must not forget that Russia played an important role when it tried to exclude wrestling from the Olympic program, and then our country, our president, the Ministry of Sports, the Russian Wrestling Federation stood up to defend it. the whole of sport. I wish the wrestlers great victories, and in fact I do not separate the Ministry of Sports from the Russian Wrestling Federation – we have the same tasks: to educate people in the spirit of respect for the country. We will do everything so that all difficulties make us stronger and more united,” Matytsin was quoted as saying by the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation.

The European licensed Greco-Roman wrestling tournament will take place on April 5. To earn an Olympic ticket to the 2024 Games in Paris, athletes must reach the final. On April 7, the Olympic tournament in licensed freestyle wrestling will take place in Baku.

The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
