The promoter responded harshly to haters who consider the undercard to be insufficiently representative
Famous promoter Frank Warren commented on the undercard of the upcoming fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO champion Alexander Usik and WBC belt holder Tyson Fury.
“This is a great card. Several fights there could become top ones. The main event will be the largest battle of this century. It cost a fortune to get these guys in the ring and achieve this.”
“The rest is a huge bonus. Every other fight there is a good fight, including good British fights, Cordina vs Cacace. There are exciting battles along the way.”
“I’ve seen a lot of comments on this and 99% of them agree that this is a damn good undercard for the show. To everyone else, for God’s sake, live for yourself, what a bunch of pathetic bastards. I don’t care what anyone says. It’s a great, great show.”
Let us remind you that as part of the Usyk-Fury undercard, German Agit Kabayel and Cuban Frank Sanchez will hold an eliminator fight for the status of mandatory contender for the WBC heavyweight title. Also, former IBF cruiserweight world champion Jay Opetaia will fight fellow former champion Mairis Briedis, while Joe Cordina will face Anthony Cacace.
In addition, the card will feature fights Sergey Kovalev – Robin Safar, Moses Itauma – Ilya Mezentsev, Mark Chamberlain – Joshua Wahab and others.
The big boxing evening on May 18 will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight between Usyk and Fury, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
