New ONE champion, Malykhin’s challenge and Kuzmin’s defeat – the main moments of ONE Fight Night 21

ONE Championship held ONE Fight Night 21 at Lumpini Stadium in Bangkok. The live broadcast took place on April 6 from 03:00 Moscow time.

DEFEAT OF VLADIMIR KUZMIN

The representative of the Archangel Michael team from Yekaterinburg, Vladimir Kuzmin, lost his sixth fight in the ONE League. The fight took place at a weight of 146.5 pounds under Muay Thai rules.

At the start of the fight, the Russians pursued Suablac and attempted to attack it. But despite Kuzmin’s aggression, it was Suablac’s timely left kick at the end of the first frame that proved the most powerful of the first three minutes.

In the second round, Suablac intensified his attack, throwing left hands to the body to slow down the aggressive Russian. In the clinch, the Thai also behaved harshly, but the Russian did not back down. In the third round, he began to act aggressively and even pinned his opponent in the corner. However, Suablac found a way out and forced Kuzmin to chase him around the ring, punishing him with body shots and kicks. Suablac won by unanimous decision, earning his 60th career victory and improving his ONE Championship record to a perfect 6-0. Now in the top 5 of the bantamweight division, Suablac has the opportunity to challenge current champion Jonathan Haggerty.

NEW LIGHTWEIGHT KICKBOXING CHAMPION – ALEXIS NICOLAS

In the main match of the OFN 21 tournament, the 25-year-old French underdog Alexis Barbosa Nicolas knocked Regian Bessmetny Ersil off the pedestal. Nicolas adapted well to his opponent’s style: he dodged Ersil’s quick punches and threw punches himself to disrupt the rhythm of the Dutchman’s fight.

As the fight continued, Nicolas became more and more confident in his abilities. He traded, and in the second frame he even dropped Ersil with an overhand right.

Midway through the five-round fight, Nicolas seemed to be feeling the effects of Ersil’s strong knees. However, during the championship rounds, Barbosa found a second wind and began treating Ersil with low blows. Nicolas earned a unanimous decision, extending his undefeated record to 24-0, ending his opponent’s 22-fight winning streak and ending Ercil’s five-year reign at the top of the division. And now, as the new ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Champion, the Frenchman ushers in a new era in the weight class.

RUOTOLO WON BY SHOCKING MOVE AND RETAINED THE TITLE

In the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 21, Ty Ruotolo took on Australia’s Isaac Mitchell to defend his welterweight grappling world title, and he did so in thrilling fashion. The 21-year-old American forced his opponent into submission with an innovative hold that shocked everyone at Lumini Stadium, as well as the global BJJ community. As many expected, Ruotolo and Mitchell spent the first few minutes of the co-main event on their feet fighting for position, each eager to show off their elite grappling and takedown skills. The Australian challenger managed to hold the line and even control most of the fight on his feet.

After about three minutes, Mitchell managed to get into position from behind, but the American exploded into reverse, ending up in mount position. After that, Ruotolo didn’t slow down, quickly moving to his back and without hesitation he applied a modified choke. The 25-year-old Australian tried to fight back, but was ultimately forced to submit at 4:43 of the 10-minute bout. Ty used the same move as his twin brother, lightweight grappling world champion Cade Ruotolo, who submitted Brazilian newcomer Francisco Lowe earlier in the tournament.

BEN TYNAN CHALLENGES ANATOLY MALYKHIN

Heavyweight Ben Tynan defeated Duke Didier early in a ONE heavyweight MMA fight.

Ben Vanilla Thunder Tynan, 30, is from Canada with an excellent wrestling background. Champion among juniors, he was able to benefit from a sports scholarship to study at the University of North Dakota in the USA. In ONE, he successfully fought two fights and received a $50,000 bonus for each from ONE President Chatri Sityodtong. After an early victory over Duke Didier on May 6 (TKO, 1st round), Didier tore his shirt in the ring and turned to Malykhin: “The whole problem is that our middleweight holds the heavyweight belt , and that’s not cool. I’m calling Anatoly. I’m coming for you, my boy! It might not be in the next fight, but I’m going, brother. So look around, baby! And it’s a middleweight! There is no middleweight in this world who can beat me. I’m going to kick his ass!
