Mamiashvili on the participation of wrestlers in the Olympics: “Until we have clear rules, we will not announce the final decision”

President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili said that the decision on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be announced only after the organization receives clear conditions for their participation.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Russians to participate in the Olympic Games in neutral status, while Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be allowed to participate in any team competitions. Participation in the Olympics will also be denied to people who actively support the SVO. Individuals associated with military or national security organizations will not be permitted to attend the Olympics.

— The main task facing our team has indeed been accomplished: we continue to prepare for the Olympic Games. But until we see the protocol, a clear set of rules, under what conditions we will be invited to perform in Paris, we will not express our final decision. Today we have the opportunity to send 16 wrestlers to the Olympic Games – and we are preparing. We hope that there will be a final agreement in the very near future, at the latest in three to four weeks,” Mamiashvili was quoted as saying by FSBR press secretary Tigran Avanyan on the Telegram channel.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
