According to the coach, Denis clearly fulfilled the plan for the fight
Egor Golubtrainer of WBO lightweight titleholder Denis Berinchik (19-0, 9 KOs) commented on the victorious fight between the Ukrainian and the Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete (38-3, 31 KOs).
“After the first round, I was second in the ring because the California State Athletic Commission was coming up. At that moment I looked into the corner of Navarrete – the guy had frightened eyes. He just didn’t know what to do.”
“After that, I calmed Denis down and said: “Look, there’s panic there. They don’t know what to do. It does exactly what we prepared for. They haven’t come up with anything new, they’re not doing anything new. We follow the plan.”
“Somewhere during the broadcast, Denis was heard to say: “I see everything.” At that moment I answered him: “I see what you see, but still act carefully while it is fresh. Spin more, work more on your feet. More jab control and body work.”
“Denis fulfilled his plan for the fight. He’s a great guy. Navarrente was not surprised. They didn’t prepare anything new. This can even be seen in the strike statistics. We killed him.”
Let us remind you that on the night of May 19 in San Diego, America, Berinchik defeated Navarrete by a split decision and won the long-awaited WBO world lightweight title.
Immediately after the fight, Denis, answering the question with whom he would like to fight next, named (among others) the 2020 Olympic silver medalist (in the up to 63 kg category) Keyshawn Davis.
In April, K2 Promotions CEO Alexander Krasyuk said that the contract stipulated a rematch between the Ukrainian and the Mexican. Another option of the contract is fights with champions of other associations, including a show with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. According to the same Krasyuk, a unification fight against Stevenson is more realistic for Denis than a confrontation with Vasily Lomachenko.
