President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told that at present there is no clear decision on the participation of national athletes in the Paris Olympic Games.
The IOC commission must approve the composition of the Russian wrestling team for the Paris Olympics. Previously, the United World of Wrestling (UWW) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with neutral status.
— There has been no response from the IOC yet?
– No. We have no contact. We can only apply through an affiliated international federation. We are currently in sleep mode. Another unpleasant thing is that it is an attempt to usurp human relationships. From my understanding this doesn’t match. The Olympic movement was created not only for results and records, but also for human relationships.
— How do you convey this information to your athletes?
“We try to explain to them, but they are adults. A sense of civic responsibility must be paramount. These are all temporary difficulties.
— What is the percentage probability that Russian wrestlers will still participate in the Olympic Games?
– I don’t know. I can’t tell it from the tea leaves. “I don’t expect anything good from people who have been under strong pressure from the outside, including from the IOC leadership,” Mamiashvili told on the sidelines of SPIEF 2024.
The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
