Gvozdyk: I know Benavidez will be in his best shape, as will I

The fight is scheduled for June 15

Former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk spoke about the upcoming fight with the American holder of the “interim” WBC super middleweight title David Benavides.

“David is moving up in weight, he’s still a big guy. I know he will be at his best and so will I, and I don’t care about the rest.”

“My opponent has more professional fights and is already a very experienced fighter. If we talk about professional experience, we are approximately equal. He may be a little ahead of me in this regard, as Benavidez has had more, stronger opponents. But I had a long amateur career. I had 250 fights in the amateur ring. So I have something to show.”

“In any case, the fans are in for an exciting and great fight. You won’t regret watching it.”

Earlier, Gvozdyk announced the completion of preparations for the fight with Benavidez. The Ukrainian will then go to Las Vegas directly for the fight.

The fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez for the vacant WBC interim light heavyweight title will take place on June 15. The event will be hosted by Las Vegas, with a boxing evening scheduled at the Grand Garden Arena. The fight between Alexander and David will take place on the undercard of the confrontation between WBA champion Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin.

Benavidez, 27, fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round. David spent his last few fights in the super middleweight division (up to 168 pounds or 76.2 kg). For the fight with Gvozdyk, he moves up to the light heavyweight category (up to 175 pounds or 79.4 kg).

Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Before this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.
