The Briton wants to meet the Ukrainian absolute world heavyweight champion
WBO cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith said that he would like to meet with the absolute world heavyweight champion Alexander Usikif the Ukrainian returns to cruiserweight.
“If he goes back to cruiserweight it will be wild. When I first walked into the gym, I told coach Shane McGuigan, “You’re going to teach me how to beat him.” It was in 2017, it seems, I just made my debut.”
“I’m not saying it’s an easy fight, by any means. He is a special fighter. It would be phenomenal to share the ring with him. And every fighter, going into a fight, believes that he can win.”
Earlier it was reported that Usik may decide to change weight category after a rematch with former WVC belt holder Tyson Fury. Let us note that in the heavyweight division the Ukrainian became the absolute world champion.
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
