UFC fighter Irina Alekseeva told that initially she had no doubt that reports of her positive doping test were a mistake.
Earlier, the UFC press service reported that the Russian was suspended due to the presence of exogenous testosterone in her anti-doping tests. Alekseeva, 34, is a world champion in sambo, has been competing in mixed martial arts since 2019 and made her UFC debut in 2023.
“When I was informed about the positive doping control, I had no doubts that it was a mistake, since I was informed about the violation 4.5 months after the test, and I even managed to fight during this period. I am very grateful to my team, the Combat Sport anti-doping agency represented by George Piro, as well as the UFC represented by Jeff Nowitzki and Donna Marcolini for their detailed investigation of my case. They took into account the fact that I have been tested by WADA for 8 years and have a large number of negative tests in Bellator and the UFC, including before and after the last fight. The work is completed and from October I will be able to perform again,” Alekseeva told .
The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) reported the test results to the athlete and the UFC only on October 31, 2023, and Alekseeva managed to perform at the UFC tournament in Las Vegas. On October 14, she fought in Las Vegas and was defeated by American Melissa Mullins.
Alekseeva’s disqualification period begins on October 15, 2023.
