Previously, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had dismissed the IBA’s appeal against the decision of the IOC Session of 22 June 2023 to revoke the organisation’s recognition. The IOC Executive Committee recommended on 7 June of the same year not to restore recognition to the IBA, as the association had not met the necessary conditions set out in December 2021.
The CAS statement stressed that the IBA had failed to increase financial transparency, failed to monitor and control the integrity of referees and failed to fully implement all measures proposed by the IOC.
The IOC withdrew recognition of the IBA (then AIBA) in 2019. The boxing tournament at the Olympic Games was preserved, but at the Tokyo Games it was organized by a special IOC commission. The competitions at the 2024 Olympic Games will again be held without the participation of the IBA.
