The two-time absolute world champion said what remains the most important thing for him in sports.
Alexander Usik believes that amateur sports are more important than professional ones. Despite receiving two titles of absolute champion, the Ukrainian boxer called the Olympic gold more important.
The WBC, WBA, WBO, IBO heavyweight champion also said what remains the most important thing for him in his favorite sport.
“For every professional athlete, Olympic gold is the highest achievement in sports. Only a two-time Olympic champion, three-times, four-times can be more… Pros are at 50% of the show, but not doing much of their job It’s bad If you put on a cool show, but your boxing isn’t good, and they come to watch it three times, and that’s all the show results, then cool.
For me, boxing remains a sport. Money doesn’t motivate me. My team motivates me, my work motivates me. Take my team – it’s 12 people who live with me 24 hours a day. Additionally, we have around 80-85 people working for the Ready to Fight platform and team. That is, all these people are involved in the preparation. I won’t do it alone. I will not wear gloves alone. I can wear them, but I can’t tie them. So the team is incredible. I love my team,” Usyk said in an interview with Volia Space Ukraine.
We remind you that Usik said earlier why he decided to pay additional prize money to Ukrainian boxers at the Olympics.
