The International Boxing Association (IBA) will pay cash rewards to female athletes who were “injured” by opponents at the Paris Olympics who failed a gender test.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Algerians Iman Khelif and Lin Yuting (Taiwan) from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) cleared them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.
Italian Angela Carini withdrew from the match against Khelif in the first round of the 1/8 finals of the Olympic tournament in the weight category up to 66 kg, in the quarterfinals the Algerian defeated Hungarian Lutsa Hamori. Lin Yuting (up to 57 kg) defeated Sitora Turdibekova (Uzbekistan) and Bulgarian Svetlana Staneva.
“We will pay prize money to the girls who suffered.” We are for fairness in women’s and men’s sport. I urge the entire sports community, everyone who loves sport, to unite.
“We will pay prize money for all the first places. And the IOC spends all its money on accommodation in five-star hotels. The most important thing for us is the athletes. Thanks to them, spectators come to the competitions, sponsors come to the sports,” Kremlev said at a press conference.
