“Gypsy Baron” Responds to Speculation He Might Turn Down Fight with Ukrainian
Former World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO) commented on talk that he might refuse a rematch with the holder of the WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight belts Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs).
“It’s probably the same people who say I haven’t trained. I’ve thought about quitting because I’m beyond fucking boxing now. I sit at home, go out for coffee, have dinner, take the kids to school, come back. I can do whatever the hell I want.”
“I don’t need boxing, I don’t need to go out there and get punched in the head and punch people in the head for fun. I can just go to the pub and have a few pints. I can drink six or eight pints every day if I want. I can do that now, but for me it makes sense to get a rematch and get my win back.”
Let us recall that on the night of May 18-19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usyk and Fury have reached an agreement for a rematch. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Alexander Usyk will prepare for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia.
