Absolute light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev said he doesn’t feel like a good boxer yet.
On Saturday in Riyadh, Beterbiev defeated his compatriot Dmitry Bivol by majority decision and became the absolute world boxing champion. The last time Roy Jones won every belt in the light heavyweight division was in 1999.
— You are the absolute world champion. Are you used to this idea?
— The belts are in my bag, it has become a little heavier, but there is nothing like that (smile).
– Arthur, you said you wanted to become a good boxer. After becoming absolute world champion, do you have the feeling of becoming one?
– I don’t feel it yet.
— How long should the recovery break last? What will be the new date of the fight?
— It depends not only on me, but also on the organizers. And I already want to go back to the gym.
—Has Roy Jones contacted you?
“I’ve known him for a long time, but I didn’t know he was the last absolute world champion. I’m not a big boxing fan. Yes, I train, I do it, but I’m not a fan of boxing history.
— At the Ufa forum you will meet young people. How strong is our boxing?
“When I was young, I didn’t have such opportunities to meet the world champion. “I always dreamed of watching from the outside how such eminent guys train,” the correspondent of reports Beterbiev’s words.
Beterbiev flew to Ufa on Wednesday evening and will participate in the forum “Russia, sports power”.
