“We compete as athletes of the International Judo Federation. But this is an intermediate step” – FDR leader Soloveichik

President of the Russian Judo Federation (RJF) Sergei Soloveichik On he spoke about the work to restore the right to national athletes to play with the country’s flag and anthem.

On Wednesday, Soloveichik was re-elected head of the Russian Judo Federation. Russian judokas, like representatives of many other sports, currently compete as neutral athletes, without a flag or anthem.

— Our national team is about the third in the world. We have great potential and high hopes for all world and European competitions. And also at the Olympic Games, which will take place in 4 years.

The term “neutral individual” irritated us and the athletes. And we are grateful to the international federation that we are now competing as athletes of the International Judo Federation. This is an intermediate step. We look forward to returning the flag and anthem to our athletes. It’s a great job by the federation, our athletes and our coaches,” Soloveichik said on .

Also on October 16, it became known that Italian Ezio Gamba left the post of general director of the Russian judo team. Soloveitchik reported it.

— Ezio Gamba is not only a legend of the world, but also of Russian judo. He led our country to new results, he laid the foundation for the coaching team. We were talking about new stages in the development of our judo and the national team. He has his own plans. He will run for president of the Italian federation. When he succeeds, I am sure that Russia will find another friendly national federation,” Soloveichik said.
