Russian fighter Vyacheslav Vasilevsky said that Belarusian Vladislav Kovalev, nicknamed Belaz, cannot even compare with Brazilian Gleison Tibau.
In a boxing match in Moscow on Friday, Vasilevsky defeated former UFC fighter Gleison Tibau, who fought with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, by unanimous decision. On November 22 in Nizhny Novgorod during the Ural FC 9 tournament, Vasilevsky will meet Kovalev in a fight according to MMA rules only in a standing position. The first fight between Vasilevsky and Kovalev was the headliner of the Ural FC 6 tournament in March in Moscow. Then the victory went to Vasilevsky by split decision, but Kovalev’s team appealed to the Russian Boxing Federation, as a result of which the fight was declared invalid.
“The coaches told me to move more and fight throughout the fight. They told me to go the full distance and not try to knock myself out. You had to constantly keep your opponent in suspense and win because of it. Tibau is an MMA and UFC legend. I knew it wouldn’t be easy with him. He is a tough, uncompromising fighter who pushes forward. It is always difficult with such people – those who have powerful bodies, functionality and are constantly moving forward. In the fourth round, I hit him well. And many of my previous opponents fell, if not stunned, then definitely knocked down, or started floating violently. But Gleyson took the hits and didn’t show he felt bad. I can’t say I’m happy with myself. He could have done better, he could have thrown more punches. The minimum task has been accomplished,” reports the correspondent, according to Vassilievsky’s words.
— Is this the maximum task?
– If I had just downgraded it. And he didn’t just beat him, he actually threw him to the ground.
— In a month you have a fight at Ural FC 9. Do you have enough strength, and was this fight with Tibau something like training?
—We called it a serious control fight. But that’s not because Gleison Tibau is worse. As a fighter, Gleison Tibau is much better than the opponent I will fight in a month. He doesn’t even hold a candle to her. But Gleison was already on the decline, and that was boxing. Therefore, we have seriously prepared and continue to prepare for both opponents.
— Why don’t you call your opponent by name for the fight on November 22?
– Now we have a fight in another organization, why do we have to promote this person. He’s already received a lot of PR, old-fashioned PR at that. From people who watch not upstarts or trash talk, but specifically fights. And this is how he attracts this audience to him through our confrontation.
