The Ukrainian is contemplating retiring from his career
Promoter Bob Arum commented on the situation around the IBF and IBO lightweight world champion Vasily Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs).
“There is absolutely no way of knowing what he will do, and if you asked me right now what he is doing, I would say, ‘I don’t know.’
“He does a very good job of saving his money, taking care of his family and he has all his abilities – he has achieved everything he wanted from a professional career. I’m very pleased with this. Of course, if he wants to come back and fight, God bless him and we will help him in his next fight.”
The Ukrainian fought his last fight in May 2024. Vasily defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout.
Lomachenko later negotiated with WBA lightweight belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis. The Ukrainian interrupted the discussion of a potential fight and decided to take a break from his career. Vasily was going to rest for the rest of the season and return to the ring in 2025, but information appeared in the media about the Ukrainian’s potential retirement.
Vasyl Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas stated that the Ukrainian wants to spend more time with his family and spoke about his current lack of motivation.
President of the promotion company TopRank Todd DuBoeuf said that Vasily was too disappointed in the fight with Devin Haney, when he could not become the undisputed world lightweight champion, and decided to take a break.
