Shakur Stevenson failed to make weight ahead of Conceicao fight and lost WBO and WBC titles

The American did not invest in the norms of the second featherweight (58.9 kg)

American boxer Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) failed to make weight before the fight against Robson Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) and according to the rules of championship fights, he has to vacate WBO and WBC super featherweight titles.

At the weigh-in, Stevenson showed 725 grams more than necessary. He later confirmed that he would no longer compete in the super lightweight division.

“I gave it my all. I’ve been a pro all my career and I’ve been doing weights, but my body can’t handle second featherweight anymore. My health should come first. In my next fight I will move up to lightweight,” Stevenson tweeted.

Recall that the fight Stevenson – Conceiçao will be held on September 23 in Newark. Conceicao will be able to get the belts if he wins.

Earlier, promoter Bob Arum said that the fight between Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson could really be organized in 2023.

In May, Stevenson defeated Oscar Valdez by unanimous decision to unify the super featherweight belts. Shakur inflicted the first defeat of his career on the Mexican.
