“I have a clear vision of what we need to do at the IBA to achieve our goals” – Kremlev

President of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev said he had a clear vision for the development of the organization.

On Sunday, the IBA congress decided not to hold re-elections for the president, and the Kremlin kept the post.

— I thank the national federations for their trust. This is a complete shutdown on all matters of governance within the IBA, the congress has clearly and transparently demonstrated its will. I respect the decision of our national federations and will do my best to support them, as well as our athletes and coaches. Today I want to send a clear message. The IBA is an independent and strong organization. Our convention today proved that we are on the right track. Today, at the board meeting, I will present a four-year development plan. I have a clear vision of what we need to do to achieve our goals,” Kremlev told reporters.

Kremlev took over the IBA in December 2020. In May, the official is re-elected. Kremlev remained the sole candidate for the post after his rival, Dutchman Boris van der Furst, was eliminated from the election.

Following this, van der First appealed the suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and won the case. Kremlev proposed in June that a re-election of the IBA president should take place.

The question was submitted to the vote of the Congress: “Should we proceed to re-elections? 106 members of the organization responded negatively, 36 positively and 4 abstained.
