Holland’s Daley Blind remembers World Cup in Brazil and favelas

“It was very confrontational,” said Daley Blind, a veteran defender from the Netherlands, comparing the 2014 World Cup between Qatari workers and Brazil’s slums.

Holland defender and reference in the team, daley blind makes another World Cup wearing the orange shirt. This Monday, the 21st, the Dutch team begins its trajectory in search of the unprecedented World Cup title, in the debut against Senegal, at 1 pm.

In an interview, the player was asked about meeting migrant workers in Qatar. In response, Blind recalled the encounter with the favelas in Brazil, during the 2014 World Cup. Afterwards, the defender spoke about Holland’s participation in the tournament and projected this year’s Cup.

🇧🇷It was an incredible experience. You see around you what kind of buildings there are, which were actually built. It was also like this in Brazil, in 2014. The favela was very close, and close to the stadiums, people lived in shacks. So it was very confrontational. Here it was seen less directly“, he said.

🇧🇷In 2014 I was a boy. Now I have another role. I’m more experienced, older”, compared Blind. 🇧🇷The 2014 group was tight-knit, and so is this one. Back then we had experienced guys like Sneijder, Robben, Van Persie and Nigel de Jong. Now the balance in the group is different. Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but it’s almost a group of friends“, continued.

🇧🇷The first match is very important. It starts by letting the good feeling grow. I experienced that in 2014 with the Spain match, which was obviously a bizarre match. As a result, the group feeling and atmosphere grew enormously.”, commented Blind about the expectations for the confrontation with Senegal.
