WBC President Suleiman: We support a unification bout between Usyk and Fury

The organization considers this fight a beautiful event in the world of boxing.

President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman spoke about the possible holding of a duel between the holder of the WBC heavyweight title Tyson Fury and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

“There was real interest in getting Fury vs Usyk to happen, that would be a great opportunity and then the winner would have to do a mandatory fight against a WBC contender once that was confirmed.”

“The WBC is very supportive of unification fights. We then supported [поединок] Wilder vs. Joshua, but that didn’t happen. Then we backed Fury again against Joshua and then we backed Fury against Usyk.”

“If this happens, it will be a huge fight for the whole world, and the WBC supports it until the rights of the mandatory challenger are violated. So there is a very good moment for this fight right now.”

Promoter Frank Warren has previously said that Usyk will be Fury’s next opponent after the Brit’s fight with Derek Chisora, which is scheduled for December 3. The same thesis was confirmed by Tyson himself, who announced his readiness to fight the Ukrainian after the fight with Derek.

In addition, the Gypsy King has announced three fights for 2023. Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the working date of the Usyk-Fury fight is February 18.

The position of the IBF, which believes that the fight of the Ukrainian with the mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic, is more priority than the sanctioning of the unification fight between Usyk and Fury, can hinder the organization of the Usyk-Fury fight.
