Thiago Silva becomes Brazil’s oldest ever World Cup player

Centerback surpasses legendary Djalma Santos

Defender Thiago Silva set a record in the history of the team Brazil.

Today, the center back appeared on the field in the match of the 1st round of the 2022 World Cup group stage against Serbia (2: 0). At the time of the meeting, Silva was 38 years and 63 days old.

Thus, Thiago became the oldest player in the Brazilian national team at the World Cups, ahead of the legendary defender, two-time world champion Jalma Santos (37 days and 138 days).

It is noteworthy that Silva himself can improve his performance in subsequent meetings. However, Thiago’s long-term partner in the national team, defender Dani Alves, who, at the age of 39, also entered the application for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, could become the new author of the record.

In the next match at the world championship, Brazil will play with Switzerland on November 28.
