Ex-Juventus player dies aged 49 from liver cirrhosis

Former Uruguayan midfielder Fabian O’Neill died at the age of 49.

The ex-footballer died this Sunday in a hospital in Montevideo, where he was hospitalized for problems due to chronic cirrhosis of the liver.

The Uruguayan Football Association has officially confirmed the death of the former national team player.

O’Neill had previously admitted to alcoholism in his autobiography. In 2020, he was already hospitalized due to severe liver disease.

O’Neal is known to have played for Cagliari, Juventus and Perugia. He was part of the Uruguayan national team during the 2002 World Cup.
