Unay Emery came out in defense of Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti over PSG’s Champions League eliminations; check out what he said about it!
Unay Emery tried to explain why PSG not have achieved the title of Champions League in an interview for “L’Equipe“. With a recent spell at Paris Saint-Germain, the coach is in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with villarreal and still see Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti, all with a history at the French club, in a better situation than the former team in the competition.
The Villarreal commander was asked why the three coaches are doing great work outside PSG and have not been able to do the same in the Parisian team. According to Unay Emery, Paris Saint-Germain are different and not to say that his, Tuchel and Ancelotti’s flaws mean that all three are bad professionals.

“Three former PSG coaches in the quarter-finals means they are very good coaches. If they didn’t make it with PSG, it’s because there’s something else because PSG… I said to Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi, PSG owner): “You will win the Champions League. In time, you will win” . PSG are on the right track because there is a certain consistency in the results and they are still looking for progression“, he stated.
Unay Emery also took advantage of the moment of reflection on PSG and quoted an old phrase by Pep Guardiola about some clubs that have already won the Champions League. Manchester City’s coach even said that teams that have already won the Champions League know how to deal with troubled moments in the knockout stage and maybe that will be an additional problem for the Paris team.
“One day Guardiola told me that teams like Barça or Real Madrid, having already won the competition, react better in difficult situations. The key is managing frustration. When Barça (in the historic comeback in 2016/17) scored four goals, then five and the referee made mistakes, we didn’t know what to do“, finished.
