English Second Division Football Club (Championship) “While reading” stripped of six points for financial breaches, according to the English Football League (EFL) website.
As reported, Reading have admitted breaching the budget restrictions passed in November 2021 for the club as part of a league deal. Then the club was fined conditionally six points.
— The club attempted to include in the report the profit from the alleged sale of investments to an organization controlled by the club owner. This sale had not been completed at the time the club submitted the documents on March 1, 2023. This is a breach of the original decision agreed, which clearly stated that Reading had to comply with sustainability requirements without support player sales or related party transactions made after March 1. The club have acknowledged that without this agreement, they would not fulfill the necessary conditions.
The club failed to receive the necessary profit from the sale of players in accordance with the agreed budget specified in the original decision. Reading admitted two breaches of the original agreement with the EFL and accepted a six-point deduction, according to the report.
Reading will drop from 18th to 20th in the table after being deprived of points, and will be one point ahead of Huddersfield in the relegation zone.
Earlier, three points were deducted from Wigan for non-payment of player wages, the team are bottom in the Championship.
