Chile had asked FIFA to investigate an Ecuador national team player in alleged irregularities; Andean team did not qualify in the qualifiers
THE FIFA did not accept the complaint Chile and the Ecuador national team will compete for 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Chilean team could not guarantee its place in the competition: it qualified in 7th place in the Qualifiers stage. In case of punishment to the “brother” country, the passage to the world could have been guaranteed to La Roja.
“After reviewing the allegations of all interested parties and considering all the elements presented, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to terminate the proceedings brought against the FEF”, said the agency. The Ecuadorian team, on the other hand, added 26 points in 4th position and has guaranteed access to face the other countries in the international tournament.

The solution to the problem was consolidated after a month of investigations. Despite the verdict, the decision is still subject to appeal to the FIFA Appeals Committee; the Chilean Football Federation (ANFP) has already confirmed that it intends to appeal. The Ecuadorian national team’s social media team published a tweet with a smiling emoji this Friday, 10, in a possible reference to the decision of the highest football institution.
REMEMBER THE CASE
On May 4, the ANFP sent a complaint against the Ecuadorian team, alleging that the right-back, Byron Castillo, would have used a false birth certificate, false declaration of age and false nationality. Chile wanted Ecuador to lose the points from the games in which Castillo was on the field and wanted the opponents to win the three points of the matches, which would put the Chileans in the World Cup.
“We understand, based on all the information and documents compiled, that the facts are too serious and should be investigated in depth by FIFA. There are numerous proofs that the player was born in Colombia, in the city of Tumaco, on July 25, 1995, and not on November 10, 1998, in the Ecuadorian city of General Villamil Plavas.”said the ANFP at the time.
