The main goal of the match is charity
Ukrainian striker Evgeny Seleznev spoke about the details of the farewell match, in which he will officially end his performances at a professional level.
“Yesterday I talked with Andriy Nikolaevich Shevchenko, he is now in Ukraine, but he is leaving. I invited him to my farewell match, he took time to think. Today we also talked to him, he will not succeed, but he sends congratulations.”
“The match will be attended by people with whom I went through a certain part of my career, and I am glad to see them all. Probably, the main goal is not just to raise funds, but a lot of funds. I set this as a goal and I will achieve it.”
“Free admission. Come support. I have not assembled a 100% team – Zinchenko, Mudrik, Malinovsky, Sanya Usik and Andrey Nikolayevich could not come, but I am still waiting for the decision of Sergei Stanislavovich Rebrov. I respect him very much, he is a legend, as well as Maxim Shatskikh.”
“I would be grateful if they came, but I understand – personal life, there are also families, some questions. I was pleased to hear kind words from Andrey Nikolaevich. I really respect him for that.”
Seleznev will play a farewell match in Uzhgorod on June 6. Before the main match, an open training session will take place on June 5.
Seleznev’s farewell match will be charitable. It will raise funds for the purchase of vehicles for combat brigades in different sectors of the front.
Earlier it was reported that Seleznev initially wanted to say goodbye to football in Minay’s match with Shakhtar on October 22, but changed plans due to the postponement of the meeting to 2023.
The striker has played more than 500 official matches for his career in clubs and the national team of Ukraine. Seleznev played 257 matches and scored 117 goals in the Premier League. This season, the 37-year-old forward once came on as a substitute in the match against Lviv (0:1).
