The mentor worked in the Donetsk club for one season
Igor Jovichevich in a comment to the Croatian portal Germanijak.hr, he confirmed his departure from Donetsk Miner. The mentor is in Croatia and refused to give reasons for leaving the team.
Earlier it was reported that the decision to terminate the contract with Jovicevich was made personally by the President of Miners Rinat Akhmetov. To replace the Croatian, Zari’s coach Patrick van Leeuwen and one coach from a European club are being considered.
In addition, two Italians, Vincenzo Italiano and Gennaro Gattuso, are on the short list of Shakhtar’s management for the position of head coach.
Jovićević took over Shakhtar in July last year, signing a two-season deal. In the first year of work with the Pitmen, the mentor triumphed in the UPL and reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League.
The Donetsk club became the champion of Ukraine in the 2022/23 season and qualified for the group stage of the Champions League.
