Defense of Daniel Alves had the third appeal of freedom denied by the Hearing of Barcelona; Brazilian player has been arrested since January
This Monday, the 12th, the defense of Daniel Alves had yet another appeal of request for freedom denied by the Hearing of Barcelona. The decision will keep the Brazilian in pre-trial detention on charges of sexual assault against a 23-year-old in December 2022.
It is the third time that the appeal for the player’s freedom until trial has been denied by the Catalan justice. Daniel Alves has been in prison since January 20. The detention is also given to prevent the Brazilian from leaving Spain, an attitude discarded by the athlete’s lawyers and argued in the last request for release.
According to information from “UOL”, the defense argued that the side’s children are moving to Barcelona and, therefore, he would not leave the country. However, the importance of the justification that he would create a greater link with the city was diminished by the judges of the Audiencia de Barcelona.
Also according to the publication, the court documents allege that the change of country “seems to have been made for this purpose, as it happened on the same day that freedom was denied”. The decision refers to the second denied appeal, filed in May.
“UOL” points out that this may have been the last resort of Daniel Ales’ defense before the trial, which still has no set date. The expectation is that the Brazilian will be judged later this year, in the last quarter. The sentence ranges from 4 to 12 years in prison.
