Fan “Tottenham” banned from attending matches for three years, fined £200 and punished with one year of community service for gestures mocking the Hillsborough stadium tragedy, according to the Premier League website English.
The incident happened during the match of the 34th day of the English championship between Liverpool and Tottenham. The meeting took place at Anfield and ended in victory for the local team – 4:3. A 25-year-old man has been identified, arrested and charged with “intentional harassment”. He admitted his guilt.
Merseyside Deputy Chief Constable Paul White said this should be a good lesson for fellow fans.
– This behavior has no place in football. We will take action and identify those who commit hate crimes in any form.
Merseyside Police will endeavor to identify and prosecute anyone found guilty of a hate crime.
I hope this sends a clear and deterrent message to others,” White said.
The stampede at Sheffield’s Hillsborough Stadium in April 1989 during an FA Cup match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest left 97 Liverpool fans dead.
